SUBJECT: Renewing My Lady Jane is Good Business for Netflix
EMAIL:
To Whom It May Concern,
As the Fall television season kicks off in earnest, Netflix has a chance to grab a hit show and a dedicated, online audience with My Lady Jane. Simply put: picking up My Lady Jane is good for business.
With ‘Romantasy’ having its moment, Amazon Prime was well-positioned to lead the pack with what has been called the network’s “most promising Bridgerton competitor.” Even having premiered during the Summer Olympics, My Lady Jane was an instant hit. It garnered near-universal critical acclaim, with a 95% Rotten Tomatoes critic score and rave reviews in The New York Times, The Times (UK), The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, and more. During its pre-cancellation run, My Lady Jane ranked in the top 10 in 48 countries and secured a spot in the top 5 of Prime shows in 12 countries.
To the shock of critics and fans alike—and despite the first season intentionally laying the groundwork for a second—Amazon announced mid-August it would cancel My Lady Jane. But rather than falling off the radar since, the opposite has happened: My Lady Jane has only gotten more popular and built more buzz after its cancellation. Following the announcement, fans immediately mobilized to launch the Save My Lady Jane campaign, which in just weeks has resulted in:
Fans also continue to watch My Lady Jane en masse and push the show up the charts, as high as Prime’s #7 slot in the past few weeks. This deeply committed, enthusiastic fan base continues to build an audience for My Lady Jane that will be seated for a Season 2 from the day the episodes drop.
And new viewers across global markets are finding the show—as well as, to their dismay, the news of its cancellation—every week. My Lady Jane’s undeniable quality continues to drive organic coverage. In just the last few weeks, the show was featured among Entertainment Weekly’s “The 20 Best Fantasy Shows Streaming Right Now,” Vulture’s “The Best TV Shows of 2024 (So Far),” IndieWire’s “The 25 Best Romantic TV Shows to Watch Now,” US Weekly’s, “Favorite New TV Couples of 2024” alongside multiple Bridgerton couples, and ScreenRant’s “10 Great Fantasy TV Shows That Deserved More Seasons.” The cancellation decision has been panned in Collider’s “The 10 Worst TV Cancellations of the 2020s.
Viewership numbers are set to explode when Emily Bader’s starring turn in People We Meet On Vacation comes out. The film will be the first of Emily Henry’s works to be adapted—an author who has released five Number 1 best sellers in four years and sold more than 7 million copies of her books in the US alone since 2020. Unofficial behind the scenes photos from filming have already racked up millions of views. Netflix has the opportunity to corner the Emily Bader fan market now and lock in future growth when People We Meet On Vacation inevitably sends viewers looking for more content with the actress. Outlander fans would enjoy the historical romance with a fantasy twist. Viewers of Bridgerton can watch My Lady Jane while they await the next season. A second season of My Lady Jane would attract many of the same viewers looking for new content.
Whoever picks up My Lady Jane will get a goldmine: a critical and fan favorite with a dedicated, active online fan base, organic reach and buzz in the U.S., U.K., and abroad, and stars whose burgeoning careers will only drive more viewers to the show. Three months after the show was released and two months since it was canceled, the groundswell of support for My Lady Jane is growing, not receding. Right now is the perfect moment to acquire My Lady Jane and announce that Netflix has rescued her from a second untimely axe.
Many thanks for your consideration,
